Regulatory Reporting Associate
Our client is seeking a Regulatory Reporting Associate to join its Finance & Accounting team in New York. This role focuses on broker-dealer regulatory reporting, including SEC Rule 15c3-1, 15c3-3, and 17a-5 FOCUS reporting. You’ll work within a supportive, collaborative team, gaining exposure to complex regulatory requirements while developing your expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
In the capacity of Regulatory Reporting Associate, you will assume responsibility for ensuring that all broker-dealer regulatory reporting obligations are fulfilled with utmost precision. Your daily undertakings will encompass preparing detailed computations for customer reserves as well as net capital requirements; reviewing supplemental reports for submission to relevant authorities; maintaining current documentation that supports internal controls; updating procedural documents in line with regulatory developments; serving as a principal contact during audits; evaluating new business initiatives from a compliance standpoint; and participating in special projects aimed at advancing best practices within the team. Success in this role is predicated upon your ability to exercise sound judgement, demonstrate exceptional organizational acumen, and collaborate harmoniously with colleagues across various departments.
- Prepare and meticulously review weekly and monthly customer and PAB reserve formula computations, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory standards.
- Calculate and scrutinize elements of daily and monthly net capital calculations pursuant to SEC Rule 15c3-1, thereby contributing to robust financial oversight.
- Compile and examine aspects of the FOCUS report for timely submission to regulatory authorities, maintaining comprehensive records throughout each stage of the process.
- Review monthly, quarterly, and annual supplemental reports destined for regulators, including schedules such as SIS, SLS, Form OBS, SSOI, Form Custody filings, and Annual Schedule I Filings.
- Maintain thorough documentation that substantiates the effective operation of internal controls over compliance with net capital and customer reserve rules.
- Ensure written procedures are consistently updated to remain fully compliant with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Liaise professionally with auditors and regulators during audits and examinations by providing clear explanations alongside detailed documentation as required.
- Evaluate new business proposals from both regulatory capital and reserve computation perspectives, offering well-considered analysis to support organizational decision-making.
- Collaborate on ad-hoc projects designed to enhance the efficiency or effectiveness of the regulatory reporting function within the institution.

You bring substantial expertise in broker-dealer regulatory reporting—particularly those governed by SEC Rule 15c3-1 (net capital), SEC Rule 15c3-3 (customer reserve requirements), and 17a-5 FOCUS reporting—which equips you to navigate complex compliance frameworks with assurance. Your familiarity with Financial Responsibility Rules enables you to address possession or control requirements judiciously. Possession of a FINRA Series 27 license reflects your steadfast commitment to professional excellence. With academic credentials in accounting or finance complemented by advanced technical skills, you are adept at managing extensive datasets while producing lucid documentation. Your research acumen allows you to interpret evolving regulations precisely while your communication abilities foster constructive relationships with auditors, regulators, and peers. Adaptability remains paramount as you revise procedures in response to regulatory changes; your scrupulous attention ensures every detail is accounted for.
- Possess no fewer than five years’ experience in broker-dealer regulatory reporting activities with particular emphasis on SEC Rule 15c3-1 (net capital), SEC Rule 15c3-3 (customer reserve requirements), and 17a-5 FOCUS reporting.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of Financial Responsibility Rules including possession or control requirements; familiarity with broader industry regulations is indispensable.
- Hold a FINRA Series 27 license upon commencement of employment; this attests to your dedication to professional standards within financial services.
- Attain a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline; equivalent industry experience may also be considered if pertinent.
- Exhibit advanced proficiency in Excel together with competence in Word; display readiness to master new systems employed by the firm for reporting purposes.
- Showcase excellent research capabilities enabling accurate interpretation of complex regulations; strong written communication skills ensure clarity throughout documentation processes.
- Display outstanding verbal communication skills facilitating effective liaison with auditors, regulators, and internal stakeholders alike.
- Present a proven record of maintaining precise documentation supporting internal controls over compliance functions within financial services organization.
- Demonstrate experience updating written procedures in accordance with changing regulatory requirements; adaptability within evolving environments is essential.
