Portfolio Accounting Associate
Our client is seeking a Portfolio Accounting Associate to join a distinguished investment management firm. This position is situated within a highly supportive Operations team that plays an essential role in facilitating trading, investment, client, and reporting functions throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities:
In the capacity of Portfolio Accounting Associate, you will assume a central role in supporting the full spectrum of operational activities fundamental to successful investment management. Your responsibilities will encompass reviewing critical financial calculations; reconciling key positions; monitoring margin activity; resolving stakeholder inquiries; conceptualizing automation projects; engaging in process improvement initiatives; managing vital relationships with administrators and brokers; applying your proficiency across diverse financial instruments; and collaborating extensively with colleagues from compliance, legal, tax, business development divisions. To excel in this role requires meticulous attention to detail coupled with an eagerness for continual learning. - Conduct thorough reviews of monthly Net Asset Value calculations alongside administrator reconciliations, Profit and Loss statements, trial balances, fund allocations, management fees, performance fees, and investor statements to ensure precision and completeness.
- Supervise daily reconciliation of cash positions, market values, trade discrepancies, P&L analysis, and corporate action analysis by liaising closely with internal teams and external partners.
- Monitor cash flows and margin movements whilst ensuring prompt resolution of queries from administrators, custodians, brokers, or other relevant parties.
- Devise and implement automation initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and scalability across portfolio accounting processes.
- Oversee daily cash and position tasks to guarantee their timely completion within established deadlines and control frameworks.
- Participate in special projects focused on refining existing processes or reducing operational risk through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Contribute meaningfully to the evolution and continuous improvement of systems and processes within the team to achieve greater efficiency gains whilst maintaining rigorous quality control standards.
- Manage relationships with administrators, custodians, and brokers by overseeing communications and ensuring seamless workflow integration.
- Apply advanced understanding of various financial instruments, such as swaps, futures, repos, and equities, by utilizing this expertise in daily responsibilities.
- Collaborate effectively with Compliance, Legal, Tax, and Business Development teams to address complex issues and deliver bespoke solutions for clients.
Key Requirements:
To thrive as a Portfolio Accounting Associate, you will bring substantial experience from prior roles centered on portfolio accounting within banks or investment managers—ideally those engaging with hedge funds or intricate asset classes. Your background should reflect direct involvement with equity products as well as derivatives such as OTC contracts or foreign exchange instruments. You will have cultivated advanced analytical abilities underpinned by refined communication skills that enable effective collaboration across departments. Your organizational acumen will empower you to manage competing priorities without compromising accuracy. Proficiency in tools such as Excel or SQL is indispensable for driving automation initiatives. Above all else, you will exhibit enthusiasm for acquiring new skills whilst making positive contributions within a communal team environment.
- Possession of an undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials pertinent to finance or accounting disciplines is required.
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a portfolio accounting capacity acquired at a bank, administrator, or investment manager—preferably within hedge funds or analogous environments.
- Demonstrable history of success in operations roles involving equity and derivative asset classes (including OTC derivatives and foreign exchange).
- Advanced analytical capabilities complemented by excellent communication skills, enabling clear articulation of complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized approach facilitating effective management of multiple priorities concurrently whilst maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel/SQL for data analysis or process automation purposes within an operational context is essential.
- A disposition oriented towards ongoing process enhancement—consistently seeking avenues for improved efficiency through automation or workflow redesign.
- Comfortable working collaboratively within a team-based environment where knowledge sharing is actively promoted.
- Experience managing relationships with third-party administrators or custodians is advantageous, though not mandatory.
