MEP Commissioning Agent

Save job

Our client is seeking an MEP Commissioning Agent to join their highly regarded team. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and performance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems across a diverse portfolio of projects, including commercial, industrial, governmental, healthcare, educational, and recreational facilities. The organisation is celebrated for its commitment to community development and employee well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

As an MEP Commissioning Agent, you will be instrumental in driving the success of complex building projects by ensuring that all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems are commissioned according to industry-leading standards such as ASHRAE 0 and 1. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—ranging from engineers to contractors—to oversee every stage of the commissioning process. You will take ownership of developing checklists, conducting rigorous performance tests, maintaining detailed logs of deficiencies, and facilitating open communication among all stakeholders. Your ability to adapt processes based on emerging technologies will help keep projects at the forefront of efficiency and sustainability. By providing regular updates to clients and leading key meetings, you will ensure transparency and accountability throughout each project's lifecycle. Your contributions will directly influence the operational excellence of buildings that serve communities across Texas.

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering Project Managers, owners, design teams, and construction partners to review projects during the commissioning phase and provide troubleshooting support as needed.
  • Utilize your commissioning experience to identify and resolve maintenance or system issues across various facility types.
  • Assist in refining commissioning processes by integrating new technologies and best practices to enhance project outcomes.
  • Support clients in developing comprehensive owner project requirements tailored to each unique project scope.
  • Develop and execute pre-functional checklists for MEP systems, ensuring all components meet specified standards before final testing.
  • Create and perform detailed final performance tests alongside contractors to verify system functionality according to project specifications.
  • Maintain an up-to-date Master Deficiency Log for each project, coordinating with stakeholders to address and resolve any identified deficiencies efficiently.
  • Facilitate effective communication among internal and external project team members to ensure seamless execution of the commissioning process.
  • Develop, update, and distribute commissioning plans per project requirements to guide successful project delivery from start to finish.
  • Lead commissioning kick-off meetings as well as subsequent progress meetings, preparing clear status updates for clients at defined intervals throughout the process.

Key Requirements:

To excel as an MEP Commissioning Agent in this forward-thinking consultancy environment, you will bring proven expertise in overseeing the commissioning of complex building systems across multiple sectors. Your background may include formal education in engineering or substantial hands-on experience within the industry. Certifications related to commissioning or energy management are highly regarded but not strictly required if you can demonstrate equivalent practical knowledge. Your technical acumen should encompass both mechanical/electrical/plumbing system operations as well as familiarity with modern controls and instrumentation. Strong interpersonal skills are vital for fostering positive relationships with clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders. You should be comfortable navigating digital tools—from standard office applications to specialized construction management platforms—and possess a keen eye for detail when reviewing technical documentation or site conditions. Adaptability is key: whether updating processes based on new technology or supporting colleagues through training initiatives. A genuine commitment to teamwork combined with excellent organizational abilities will enable you to thrive in this multifaceted role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred; candidates with significant relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Commissioning Certification (such as QCxP or CxA), Energy Management credentials, or TAB certifications are highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • At least three years’ experience performing commissioning services on MEP systems within commercial or institutional environments.
  • Familiarity with project management principles including scheduling, budgeting, resource planning; direct experience is advantageous but not required.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills essential for effective stakeholder engagement across diverse teams.
  • Competence using MS Office suite along with general computer literacy; experience with construction management software such as Procore or PlanGrid is beneficial.
  • Experience utilizing commissioning software or ongoing commissioning tools; familiarity with CxAlloy or Revu Bluebeam is considered an asset.
  • Technical understanding of MEP system design/operation plus hands-on experience with controls/instrumentation (either design or implementation).
  • Knowledge of electrical systems is advantageous; ability to interpret AutoCAD/Revit drawings is also valued but not essential.
  • Understanding of engineering submittal review processes, RFI procedures, and current MEP construction standards/guidelines.
